Yesterday~ I posted a picture of myself from the
late 80's, working on the under-coating of a large
canvas painting. Sadly, that painting does not exist
anymore; it was just too big and not-so-great enough
to lug around Planet Earth during a decade's worth
of being a traveling Tramp. For the longest time, I
thought the only remnant left of that bygone dream,
was the Drawing-Over-An-Enlarged-Photocopy-Of-A-
3X5-Photo of the original piece.... This Dream Image
was important to me at the time, for it represented
several years worth of 'training', or, focusing energy
on the dream-scape to the point where I finally had
a LUCID dream. Not only was it lucid, but it may
actually have been an Out-Of-Body experience !
You see, there was an actual blizzard occurring at
the time of my nap, and in the dream I observed
a conversation between my friend Erik & Tory,
who had only met once or twice before and who
attended different Art Schools. They met on the
corner of a large construction sight in Philly,
where now stands the Philadelphia Convention
Center. Later, Erik (my roommate) described
meeting Tory at that location right around the
time that I was sleeping~! Sometimes, this
bizarre universe we live in lines up all kinds
of ducks in a row. Even if it wasn't an OOBE,
it is a mathematical anomaly that certainly
gives one pause, and makes one HUMBLE,
more aware of the unfathomable wonder
of things beyond our ability to comprehend.
Recently, I found a SLIDE PHOTO of that
ol' painting (4ft X 4ft), and used an HQ scanner
to jack it up to the level of my soaring confidence
from around that time period . Ive included other
DREAM IMAGES below, that represent a more
unconscious, fear-based form of feeling. Twisters
that whip us around~ totally out of control~ like~
Mother Nature planted a seed inside us~ then
pushed a button~ fueling all our anxieties with
a wake-up call~ or WWF style smack-down.

One thing that is so impressive about your art is the incredible variety of mediums or styles you are capable of. Very powerful impressionistic imagery. Each piece has it's own voice, solely it's own. Wonderful stuff! The big painting is fantastic, I am sorry you had to let it go. Don't do that anymore! Keep 'em! And sell 'em!
ReplyDeleteI don't go to Philly anymore because every time I try to read a billboard, there's always somebody floating in the way! Can you...move...over a bit so I can read that Vaginia Slimes ad please?
you are an mega-interesting fellow. I love reading your posts. Caught in a Big Tornado is great. i bet that was fun to make. i'm jealous of your lucid dreams.

ReplyDeleteDreams fascinate me. I never have any or very mundane. I dream of myself shaving. I dream talking to someone at work. Like that. I love that piece above called "A massive F-5 . . ." You can almost feel the ground shake. Amazing. -- Mykal
