POTPOURRI OF POETRY COVER ART

Back visiting my Parents for a week~
which means~ time to rummage through
boxes of old comic books & artwork again~!

I love finding something that I have completely
forgotten about. Today, while inspecting the
newly renovated basement~ I came across
something in a bookshelf that I do not
have in my personal stash of Art~

In the mid-80's~ for three consecutive
years~ I was the cover artist for our
High School's annual Poetry Anthology.
Although by no means my best work,
there are fond memories attached
to the process that went behind
illustrating these random images.

A TRUE MYSTERY~ THE 'LOST' THUNDERBIRD PHOTO !

FALSE MEMORY SYNDROME... is most often
discussed along with Alien Abduction, Rape,
or Molestation Cases...

So, it is truly MIND-BOGGLING that a minority
of People all share the same memory... having
seen a certain Photo... that... apparently does
not even exist !!! Everyone involved with this
shared Memory seems to agree~ they have
seen it in an old Time/Life Book from the
Late 60's/Early 70's, or some similar
anthology about the Weird & Strange.

My particular memory of it is that it was
a black & white photo printed in high-
contrast BLACK on an odd Pinkish-
Red monochromatic background.

I also have a splinter memory of it~
a memory that I no doubt created
with that portion of my brain that
takes creative liberties~ in sepia
tone...

Now, the really bizarre part is that
there are no less than THREE
different Thunderbird Photo
memories... Three distinct,
slightly varied IMAGES
that this Minority of
Victims recalls...

My version is pictured below:

Here are some links, most with similar info,
each with interesting DETAILS that add
to one's own fragile imagination...

The rough sketch presented in the 1st link by Rense
matches up exactly with my drawing & memory.

I would have seen this photo around 1972-75,
as we lived in a certain house @ that time
and my memory~ real or not~ contains
images of the basement from that
residence. If the ACTUAL photo
ever resurfaces, a lot of People
will breathe a cumulative
SIGH of relief. Otherwise,
the Cosmic Pranksta
gets to laugh & laugh
& laugh~ having
pulled yet an-
other Time-
slip crank~!

QUEEN BLANCHE MEMORIAL PLAQUE~!

Blanche was my Boss/Landlord/Friend's
17-year-old cat. She passed away back in
the Summer. She was a good ol' Girl and
a real gentle sweetheart who talked &
talked & talked all day long (she never
stopped meowing, ever). She also
happened to be the Queen of the
Empire, a sovereign plot of land
here on Ocracoke ruled by the
British...

Queen Blanche was also the Mortal Enemy
of Spunko, the Cat who adopted me. Now,
it's a funny thing about enemies, but~
much as we detest them while they
are here~ we miss them when
they are gone. Spunky actually
went through a several month
depression~! Well, now she
is freaking out because a
family of FOUR FERAL
CATS have encroached
upon the Empire, and
it's all she can do to
chase them away
on a daily basis~!

Man, do we miss Blanche~!

Spunky stares out the window @ Blanche~!

Blanche & I watch TV while her
Master is on Vacation...

Ditto~!

Hungry~!

Hungry~!!

Hungry~!!!

A Memorial Plaque for Queen Blanche~!

TORNADOES IN ARIZONA ? WHERE TO HIDE ?!

You know the Earth is going through
some shizzle when Tornadoes start
popping up everywhere... Earlier
this year, they invaded Wisconsin
& Michigan... NOW, they attack
Arizona ?!! Very Bizarre. It got
me thinking about those very
powerful Tornado Dreams
(see previous post)
we all have. You know,
the one where this
massive funnel
is barreling
toward you
and there's
no place
to hide !

So, I dug up some drawings
from an old Road Trip into
the Southwest...

Were these mud-brick adobe
structures round & recessed
into the ground for a reason
besides thermal conservation ?

Who knows but the Hopi.
This is where I'd shove
my head in the sand
however, and hope
for the best with
my ass held
high~!

THE UNFINISHED FIRE-DRAGON THAT LIVES BEHIND MY CLOTHES-LINE~!

Once upon a time, there was a
ramshackle old clothes-line...

Clothes would flutter in the breeze
and bleach in the Sun for weeks
sometimes...

But there was an unfinished
Creature that lurked in the
shadows behind it...

On sunny days you could just
see it peeking over blue jeans...

It was a Fire-Dragon without any
wings...

It was made out of
solid junk steel...

Its head was enormous.

Note how small the puny Creator's
swollen head in comparison...

His jaw actually articulates...

It is over 20 ft long...

His spine is made out of metal
receptacle boxes ripped out
of an old house that got
renovated...

His rib-cage was designed to hold
9 or 10 LOGS, for having massive
Fire-Dragon bonfires on the beach...

He eats rust & poop-stained
underwear while waiting
for his wings to be made.

His body can be disassembled;
it was built in five major segments
that inter-lock in clever ways with
heavy-duty hardware.

This video gives a better idea
of the scale of this beast~!

I will complete this sucker one
day, and take video footage
of it in use, complete with
a starter-log shoved inside
the big hollow cavity of his
head, with flames tickling
out of his eye-sockets~!

THE SHRIMP-BUG THAT WORE ANTENNAE~!

Brought the wrong flash-drive to the Coffee Shop
today~ so~ I will post some Sculpture stuff
tomorrow, I guess.

Below is a quick sketch based on something
Jodi Savitch saw (Greatest Fan of The Fish
That Wore Hair). It is an actual BUG of
some kind that puts the creep in creepy.

JUNK ART~ DEAD MOSQUITO COLLAGE~!

Back when I lived in Philadelphia, I found this
really cool ornate painting frame in the trash...
Could NOT let such a thing go to waste ! So,
during a hot sticky Summer filled with nasty
blood-sucking Mosquitoes, I created this
Monsterpiece. It is made out of smashed
up bits from an old stereo system, with
an acrylic background. The overall
image is meant to depict a DEAD
Mosquito laying on a tile kitchen
floor. The outer frame did not
survive multiple moves, but
I still have the central piece
which hangs proudly in the
Green Machine~ my old
1976 Dodge Sportsman
Motorhome~ that now
serves as my office.
It is rather fitting
because the bugs
here on Ocracoke
are brutal. The
painting gives
me pleasure
and warns
Squittors~

"BEWARE ! OR YOU WILL DIE !"

PHOTOGRAPHY~ BLACK & WHITE PORTRAITS~!

Talked with an ol' College roomate
this past week & it got me a little
sentimental (on top of being mental).
Something about early Fall brings a
rush of memories from different
eras. Anyhoo~! Here's a few of
my favorite b & w pics from
that aforementioned time
period~!

DR. DORK COMIC STRIP #8

This here is the final Dr. Dork Show comic
strip... for now. Seeing all this old stuff
really reminded me of the potential for
this concept & these characters...

A comic strip about a Drunkard Talk-Show
Host who is stuck in a loser Late-Night time
slot...

Perhaps we shall resurrect it completely
some day. For now, I gots me some
bigger Fish dat wore Hair to Fry~!

Tomorrow: Haven't decided yet...
Maybe we'll look at some yard art~!
