1ST SUPER-HERO OF ANCIENT EGYPT~!

PRINCE GAMELL

Prince Gamell was the re-animated
corpse of an Egyptian, Heir to the
throne of an Early Kingdom.

I was very bummed a few years later
to discover DC comic's DEADMAN,
both the Carmine Infantino &
Neal Adams versions.

(SIGH) Nothing new

THE CHALLENGER~ ADOLESCENT SUPER-HERO~!

I liked characters like Daredevil & Batman
because they did NOT have super powers,
but, relied on their smarts & rigorous
physical training. It was in this spirit
that I created The Challenger, a loser
ex-boxer who recommitted himself
to strengthening himself and vowed
to never lose another fight, ever
again ! Here, we see him using
his staff to thwart thugs in
a getaway car chase !

HA HA HAH ! FOUND ME A LOOP-HOLE !

Until I can buy 5 more bucks worth
of google storage space, the entire
20 gigs worth you can bet I will fill
in a 365 Day Calendar Year, my
temporary solution will be
linked images like:

NEW MASTHEAD DESIGN

BOO. HISS.

The remaining 16 gigabytes of
storage space I purchased back
in December 2009 disappeared
and now Google wants 5 more
bucks out of me. I am disappointed
because they did not make it clear
that the un-used portion of my 20-
gig purchase would vanish if I did
not renew. It led me to believe that,
once you have purchased 20 gigs,
it is yours forever. Now, to find out,
that shame on me for not using it up
in a one-year time period, and, with-
out a credit card to buy back the
remaining 16 gigs, I guess I am
forced into taking leave for
a while...

Oh, well. More time to focus
on writing, I guess ;~j

ps: I used a gift-card when I made
my initial purchase, and now they
are no longer accepted !

THE OLDEST ALIEN DRAWING I HAVE FOUND !

I drew this on a Saturday afternoon.
I distinctly remember this because
I had just finished watching a Matinee
movie on TV, which was actually a docu-
drama about the classic Betty & Barney
Hill case entitled 'The UFO Incident'
I think. James Earl Jones played
Barney. I was really intrigued
by these Aliens, which, unlike
other movies, seemed very,
very real to me...

Circa 1981/82 ?

TWO UFO/ALIEN ONE PAGE STORIES~!

Now I know my memory is slipping...

In a recent post (end of November)
I told about the night that Erik Victor
McCrea & I created our most beloved
character, Matt Crenshaw. My dis-
rememory thought that we also
drew one-page stories that
night featuring Aliens &
COWS ! Ha ha ! Turns
out, it was Aliens &
flies ! For more
backstory,
follow:

I rediscovered these one-page gems
on a recent visit to the Folk's house.
As I recall, Erik & I discussed a
general idea/theme, and then
simultaneously went to work
penciling separate storyboards,
then compared how each of us
went about 'directing' the scene.

Fun stuff ! Plus, we did that
Pin-Up of Matt Crenshaw !
Do productive slumber
parties still occur ?
Ah, the innocence

A LOST DOODLE~!

This is one of the strangest doodles
I ever diddled... 1st off, it is oversize,
on 11 x 14 paper. 2nd, it has a gray
wash for the shadowing. I have
ZERO recollection of creating
this. Must've been stoned !

COLLABORATION WITH MY TEENAGE SELF !

I penciled this in 1983, when I was
15 years old, and, thanx to the passage
of time, a lost pile of artwork re-discovered,
and a new toy (technology) in the hands of
a 42 year old, I have managed to collaborate
with myself ! No jokes from you sick viewers
out there, I know what you are thinking...

CAN YOU TELL WHICH IS REAL WET INK ?

One of the following images was inked
with real pen & ink; the others are all
Wacom Bamboo Tablet experiments.
Can you tell which one is 'real' ?

1st, the original pencils...

D)

And lastly, an amalgam of my
favorite aspects from a couple
different images...

The bottom line is, it is still WAY
faster to ink something the old-school
way, with much more control; but,
the benefit of using a Graphics
Tablet is that you can change
or delete brush strokes,
and do multiple versions
until you get it right. I think
this could be dangerous, however,
put into the hands of an anal perfectionist,
so, my policy will be to SCAN my pencil art
JUST IN CASE I mess up the dip-ink rendering !

CAPTAIN BLUE HEN'S "EGGSTRORDINARY TAILS #2"~ INKS~!

This cover art was done the
old-school way; penciled & inked
on 17 x 11 paper ala most comic
art from the 20th century...

Tomorrow, we step into the
21st century with Color on
a Bamboo Tablet.

CAPTAIN BLUE HEN'S "EGGSTRORDINARY TAILS #2"~ PENCILS~!

I have been a customer of
Captain Blue Hen's Comics
& Collectibles for 20+ years.
On December 28th 2010, the
Owner's wife had their second
Baby, a bouncing Boy. The odd
coincidence, appropriately, is
that it happens to be the same
birthday as a certain Stan Lee !

When their 1st kid was born a
few years ago I did another full-
size faux comic-book cover with
the Story heading: "The Chick Who
Came to Dinner" ! Unfortunately,
I made no record of that piece of
artwork. I hope to have the Owner
send me a photo so I can post it
here in the future.

AND~ INTRODUCING~ FORTUNA CARD~ YEAR 2011~!

I have wanted to do a Sports-related
Fortuna Card for a while, along the lines
of a Baseball or Football card. Since I am
originally from the Philadelphia area~
(boooo ! hissss) and therefore by nature
a sad-sack sucker for Philly Teams~
and since Cliff Lee re-signed with
the Phillies in the off-season, giving
them the most deadly Pitching rotation
in the History of the Sport~ I decided,
NOW was the perfect time to honor
the Great American Past-Time with
old-school Lady Luck. It is also the
1st piece of artwork drawn & colored
exclusively on a Wacom Bamboo
Graphics Tablet (that Santa brought
me). So, no trees were injured in the
making of this card...

Until I printed a couple hundred
and laminated them ;~j

Below are all the previous Fortunas,
in descending order, 2010~2000 !
