I'm so jealous...do you know how many sketchbooks I've bought with high ideals of using them to sort out ideas that just languished on my shelf? Great to see them used for what they're made for Lys.
With sketchbooks, size DOES matter. I usually sketch in el cheapo Marble Composition books; the images above are from a small Strathmore journal with acid-free cardstock paper. I use the latter only when I am traveling; did alot of traveling in the 80's & 90's, so this book is pretty old now. I like the idea of not taking art too seriously; it is liberating.
I heard a debate on an ASIFA podcast where one person was always afraid to scribble in any sketchbook. He had an idea that the book was supposed to only be filled with beautiful finished work. The interviewee (I forget her name) explained that it was for working out ideas and she had no problem filling page after page. Like I said,I wish I were more like you or her than like the other guy (and me).

ReplyDeleteThe Skitch63 drawing of him reaching up into the tree is really scary but I don't know why.
