GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST, 1945

Pop-Pop in the Phillipines,
World War II. Minimalist
Art-Department did a nice
job considering the crappy
conditions. Would love to
have seen the dark-room
they set up to process
film of homesick G.I.s

  1. Why does this just look like it's from that era? You wouldn't even have to say it and people would just know. I can't figure it out. It's just letters and a tree, and yet it feels like it's from that decade. Even if you don't see the photo you just know. Maybe it's the spacey kerning between the letters? Or maybe it's the E and the Y? Thanks for sharing

    Merry Christmas Lysdexicuss!

  2. Yeah~ it's weird how every era has its own~ FLAVOR or STYLE. One can readily spot late 1800's, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, 30's & 40's industrial, 50's commercial, 60's pop, 70's gaud, 80's glitz; but what are the 1990's & early 2000's ? Very strange. Perhaps we are not far enough removed to identify it yet...

  3. I bet the 90s and 00s are going to be identified by out of control over-use of photoshop filters on text. Stuff like lensflares, and 3D bevel effects and drop shadows.

  4. And I think this decade's look is the retro fake antiqued stuff, where people use photoshop to make things look rough and torn on the edges, and yellowed and folded and creased.

  5. you are probably right; I wonder what kind of name or phrase could be attached to these artistic periods. or, are we, survivors of this age, not qualified to participate in labeling this time-frame ?
