DR. DORK COMIC STRIP #3

The idea for the 1st Dr. Dork Show storyline in comic strip
form was to introduce all the various regular characters,
such as his Staff, the Crazy 8, and establish some tones,
a few themes, and set up some running gags or
scenarios on the show that would repeat.
(such as 'Stupid Pet Tricks' etc)...

DR. DORK COMIC STRIP #2

I remember being really conscious around this time
about K.I.S.S. (Keeping it simple stupid), insofar as
focusing strictly on the outer line weight of each
character and making sure the backgrounds were
not overcrowding the foreground or overflowing
with excessive details. Because comic strips
have been shrinking in size over the years,
this seemed pretty much a prerequisite
for potential publishers. Look at a strip
like 'MUTTS' for instance. Very simple,
yet effective.

DR. DORK COMIC STRIP #1

Here is the first of the re-vamped Dr. Dork Show,
in comic-strip form, from the early 1990's. You
can see a strong Bloom County influence in
the layouts & even humor style. Trying to
make it as commercial as possible without
sacrificing any of its innate dorkiness.

DR. DORK~ DAY ELEVEN~!

Here are some random Dr. Dork Pin-ups,
including one of my all time favorite juvenile
visual gags...

So, taking a page from KW Monster's play-book,
here is what you will need:

1) Your own index finger folded tightly
onto itself (see picture details)

2) A sophomoric drawing depicting
someone's rear-end (or ASS),
preferably in an offensive
manner that is also comical.

3) Cut out the area with the cartoon
character's buttocks.

4) Simply insert your finger
behind the cut-out space:

DR. DORK~ DAY TEN~!

The last complete lined-paper
full-page Dr. Dork Show episode.

The following are unfinished
(obviously) Dr. Dork Show
episodes that really give a
glimpse of the process. If
I remember correctly, the
opposite side of each page
contained the 'script'...

The Dr. Dork Show Comic Strip
was proposed during High School
(more on that to come), but I never
really got around to fleshing it out
until the early 90's. His colorful
staff of supporting characters
consisted of cartoon caricatures
of real-life TEACHERS that both
Erik & I had during our tenures
at seperate Schools. They were
called 'The Crazy 8' !

Faux Ad for a comic book project
Erik Victor McCrea & I did back
in the mid-80's. I will post the
full project sometime soon...
